From Surfing Snow to Waves at the Otter Rock & Roll contest, with Surfrider

Elijah Pyle scored a 3rd place podium finish back in April at the Gerry Lopez Big Wave Challenge shredding waves formed out of snow up at Mt. Bachelor, and on Saturday – he scored a win in the parent-assisted division at the seventh annual Otter Rock & Roll youth surf contest.

As an aspiring surfer, helping out with this event and watching the groms shred junior-sized waves was inspiring.  Held at one of our favorite Oregon beaches just north of Newport, and although a little breezy, a solid turnout of competitors, volunteers and spectators enjoyed a sunny day on the beach, including a good-sized crew of happy dogs.
