Earlier this spring I worked with Gerry again on his 4th annual Big Wave Challenge event at Mt. Bachelor. Thanks to the park crew who milked a lingering snowpack to build some double-overhead lefts, rights, and airs throughout the course, the surf was up for this years event and the nearly 200 competitors scored amazing snow-waves throughout the day.
Pro surfers and snowboarders from around the globe converged for the 2015 event along with many regional and local riders competing for the top divisional prizes, including a custom Gerry Lopez surfboard as well as trips to the Billabong Pipe Masters and the Volcom Pipe House in Oahu! As much as this is a 'competition', the vibe and air was filled with the spirit of aloha throughout the day, which makes this such a unique and fun event to be involved with.
For those of you who could not join us in April, the event was filmed for the World of Adventure Sports show and broadcast through NBC, and hosted by legendary snow surfer, Todd Richards - who also one the 40+ division. The segment and show were posted last week to the WOAS YouTube Channel - check out the event coverage for Season 12, Episode 3 at:
